Tummy time...

Devin has pretty much hated tummy time since she was a tiny baby. We have continued to work on it though anyway. So recently she has all of a sudden become a pro at tummy time. Often when I drop her off in the morning, I leave her on the floor on her tummy, as long as there is another baby down there to keep her company. She seems to do really well with it in the mornings. The other day she even rolled over for me while I was at Daycare getting her settled in on her tummy.

A couple weeks ago I went out and got some large foam floor pieces that we could use for tummy time at home. She seems much more willing to be on the floor at home now too!

Breast milk Slushies!

When we went to Devin's 4 month checkup, the pediatrician told us it was OK to start solids and best to start them between 4-6 months. With all of the reading and research I have done (you know me, the research Queen!), we decided we will wait closer to the 6 month mark to start solids. There are a lot of reasons to wait and I would rather not chance it with the increased potential for food allergies being my biggest concern. As soon as he told us that though, i decided it was time to order her a high chair and start getting her used to it. We have tried it out a few times while spoon feeding her breast milk. Today though we went for a breast milk slushy and she loved it! She kept opening her mouth for more bites! At least I know she will physically be ready for solids when we start them in a few weeks!

He she is eating her slush

And here I gave her the spoon to play with. It looks like she knows what to do with it already!

Cutie Patootie!

Grandma Cherry loves to dress her only baby girl up in all sorts of cuteness! Her only other girl is hardly a baby anymore. She will be 13 tomorrow! You know how those teenages are, they will barely let you dress them anymore without their input! One of my favorites for Devin are the bloomers with her initials on them. It is nice to have for outfits that need them but don't include them!

Who could resist a cute little patootie like this? I especially love her fat little legs. I could just eat them they look so yummy!

Sleeping Beauty

Here is my little sleeping beauty! I just love watching Devin sleep. She normally falls asleep on the couch every night while I am making dinner, then when she gets up a little later to eat, we do our bedtime routine and put her to sleep for the night. Speaking of sleep, we have finally started transitioning Devin from her Pack N Play in our bedroom to her crib in her own room. She has been taking naps in her crib since she was really young but mommy didn't want to have to travel so far during the night for the middle of the night feeding as well as any other waking that was tended to during the night.

Lately though, Devin has been kicking and flailing in her sleep. Apparently this is normal for babies her age as they are trying to reach a lot of developmental milestones and they practice in their sleep. All that kicking gets loud in our room in her Pack N Play and is starting to keep both Chris and I up during the night.

I ordered a video monitor so that I can check on her from our bed, really it is more for my own peace of mind, but helps me to not go open the door and fully wake her when she is really just sort of stirring in her sleep. Last night was the first night and it went about the same as any night in our room. Wish us luck that it continues this way!

Lately she doesn't really see the need for naps, no matter how hard we try. If we are lucky she will give is fron 20 minutes to an hour maybe. That can make the evenings tough sometimes!

You will notice in these pics that her feet on on mommy's lap. Sometime I have to physically hold her legs down so that she can fall asleep if she is still awake by the time we are eating. I feel for her. I have always had restless legs and horrible leg aches. I see a lot of this in our future with her unfortunately. At least I know what it was like and what it takes to make them feel better.

This is what I get to do...

at Grandmomma and Daddy Cinco's house!

It looks like they are going to let her do whatever she wants when she is over there, spoil her rotten, then send her home! That's what grandparent's are for though, right? :) I certainly don't see the kitties protesting that idea!

4 month checkup

Devin went for her 4 month shots and checkup this week. She weighs 13 pounds 12 ounces and is 26 inches long. Her weight is in the 55th percentile which is about average but her height is in the 95th percentile which means she is pretty tall right now. Not sure if that will stick or not. She does have some tall grandparent's that she could have gotten those genes from b/c neither Chris nor I are taller than average. She has an ear infection in both ears that she must have gotten from being so sick with this horrible cold and cough she had so she is on antibiotics. The dr told us we can start trying solids now too! I am holding off probably until she is at least 5 months if not a little longer, but we are going to start trying some foods here and there which should be fun. I ordered a high chair for her that should be here later next week and will start letting her sit in it. I might even feed her a little breast milk on a spoon and see what she thinks!

The next day while Devin was at daycare she starting running a fever which isn't all that unusual for her after shots. They called me to pick her up pretty late in the day and said she couldn't come back for 24 hours. So she got to come to work with me two days in a row! The first day she slept in her car seat b/c her little fever then the Tylenol I gave her made her pretty tired. But on Friday, that baby only slept for maybe 1 hour all day made up of multiple short naps. She was such a good baby while she was at work with me. She kept herself pretty occupied playing and didn't fuss one bit!

Here she is the first day...you can tell she feels a little crummy

But the second day she was perfectly fine. It is good though that they have strict sick rules at her school. We made her a little play center on the floor next to my desk.

Race for The Cure

Every year my boss and her family walk in Race for the Cure. Since I have been working there, with the exception of the last 2 years, I have joined them! It is absolutely amazing the number of people that are there and for such a good cause. I have many people in my life who have been affected by breast cancer and am so grateful that there have been so many advances in medicine over the years! Jane, my bosses mother, is a survivor herself! It is an honor to get to walk with her and all of the other survivors out there!

This year Devin got to start in on the tradition and she was a perfect angel the whole time! It was a little chilly when we first got there but nothing like years past. She had the beginning of a really bad cold/cough too but she rode like a champ. My boss Chris pushed her the whole way and Devin didn't fall asleep until the very end of the walk.

Look at how many people were just within eye reach...this went on for as far as you could see in front and behind us.

Our staycation...

For the last three years, Chris and I have both taken time off after tax season. With the possible strike looming, we decided to stay home this year. We all really enjoyed ourselves together.

Thursday Chris and I worked in the flower bed while Devin napped and then later joined us.

Then Tia Awol came in town and we spent a few days playing with her.

Easter

One thing that is nice during tax season is that Easter is a Sunday I always get to take off and it always seems to fall right at the end of the season when I need a break horribly!

This year my parent's, brother and some close family friends came over for dinner. Chris made some fabulous ribs, I made some deviled eggs and our guests brought everything else. It's a good thing too b/c I had neglected my house for weeks so I spent the day cleaning!

The food was fabulous and we all had a great time together!

Tax Season....

Well, it is officially over! YAY!!!!

Although this tax season seemed a little anti-climatic for me, we had a busy but very good season. I think b/c last year I worked twice as many hours as this year is why I felt this way...plus, my perspective has changed. All I wanted to do was finish the day in the office so I could pick up my little ladybug, play with her for a few hours before she fell asleep and then get back to work. I can't think of a year that I have felt more calm!

So I promise it won't be so long between posts this time!

Devin is changing so much every day! She loves to coo and make airplane noises. She laughs at herself all the time...she loves to stand up. Her favorite place to be these days is in her exercauser....that is also her favorite place to poop apparently. Silly bug! She seems to be more aware of her surroundings and actions each day. She is very deliberate in some of her actions now whether it be pressing buttons or moving things on her exercauser, or petting the animals. She will happily play on her own for a short bit now before she realizes that mommy has taken the opportunity to get a few things done. She is just an all around pleasure. We are so blessed to have such a beautiful well tempered baby!
