Oh my word, my handsome little dude is 5 months old! Where is the time going?

*Cooper weighs almost 16 pounds.
*He is wearing size 3-6 and 6 months, but with colder weather here, I have been putting him in a lot of 6-9 and 9 month clothes and they seem to fit as well.
*He is wearing a size 3 diaper.
*He still exclusively eats breastmilk, although that will be changing very soon!
*Cooper has never been a very good napper. He usually takes about two 45 minute naps a day and goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 and sleeps until I wake him around 7:15.
*Cooper went on his first road trip last weekend to Austin to visit his Tia Awol. He woke up the morning we left with a terrible chest cold and those sleeping habits in the preceeding line have changed drastically. We are trying to get him back on track!
*Cooper has discovered his feet this month! Most mornings when I go in his room, he is just waking up, and he is often chewing those feet! The feet of his PJ's are always soaked from his slobbober! It sure does make diaper changes harder too!

*Cooper has got quite a grip these days. If you give him a toy and he drops it, if it is within his reach and sight, he will look for it and grab it.
*Cooper LOVES to shake his rattle up and down vigorously!
*While doing tummy time, Cooper has rolled from his front to his back a few times now. He still hasn't roller from his back to his front, but he sure is close to it!

*This past month we put him in the exercauser much more often and he really enjoys playing in it now.
*This past weekend we got out the jumperoo and now that is his favorite toy! He no longer has any care for the exercauser!

*Devin and Cooper interact so much more these days. They love to play together and she can make him laugh just by being herself!
*Coop has a ticklish spot right in the center of his chest that I can make him laugh when I take my nose and rub there. I can do it with my finger too but my nose seems to find the spot better.

*Cooper had to have his first breathing treatment last week when he had that chest cold. We are hoping it is the last, and really hoping he doesn't end up with asthma.

*Every morning when I nurse Cooper in the study, while Devin watches cartoons, he always finishes off by trying to watch some cartoons too. I know he is done eating when he no longer tries to go back for more, and instead turns his head as far to the other side to see if he can see the TV!
*For the most part, Coop seems to have pretty much given up the paci. I'm not sure why I even try still, but he very rarely takes it, and it usually makes him mad when you give it to him!

*Coop LOVES his doggy toy that is in his car seat. He always fusses when I put him in his car seat but as soon as I hand it to him, he usually quiets down.
*Coop also often fusses when we are in the car and it isn't moving. He always wants to be moving! It can make for an interesting drive in traffic!

There is nothing sweeter to me than seeing the bond these two have formed and watching it grow! Every morning as we get out at school, Devin insists that she needs to kiss Cooper's head before we can get out of the car. It makes this momma's heart flutter!

There is one thing that will never get old, and that is seeing our children together! I love this little outtake of Devin and Cooper. He was jsut a few weeks old here and Devin was so incredibly proud of him. She still is, but it was so new still here. I remember thinking how she seemed like she had suddenly aged 3 years once I had Cooper.

The first few days home...

When I had Cooper, I suffered from a HORRIBLE headache. We still aren't sure if it was a spinal headache (would have had to have been a really slow leak) or a tension headache (more likely since my neck was stiff from being curled in a ball for over an hour trying to get a good epidural). Either way, I came home Thursday, felt OK on and off on Friday, on Saturday I felt great all day until that night when the headache always seemed to come back, then Sunday morning I was miserable when I woke up. I texted Dr. B that I was seriously condisering checking myself into the ER because of the pain, and she called back and put me on bedrest for the next 48 hours with round the clock painkillers. This did the trick! And it was probably an answered prayer because Devin had woken up the night before with a high fever and couging. For the next 48 hours, Cooper and I hung out in my room and slept and played ont he bed when he was awake and Devin, Daddy and Sissy hung out in the rest of the house.

This was taken the night we got home. Devin was pretty obsessed with Cooper and has been since the day she met him.

and thankfully so because mom was right at the end of radiation and chemo, and went into the hospital for 3 weeks shortly after this. So he was much older and bigger by the next time she got to see him.

That Saturday while I was feeling pretty good, Devin and Sissy and I went and ran some errands. We went to the library together and D really enjoyed it!

It is hard to believe how quickly the time is flying by...even faster than I remember it going with his sister!

What is Cooper up to these days?

*Cooper weighs about 15 pounds. He goes for his 4 month shots next week so I will get all of his measurements then.
*He wears a size 3 diaper.
*He wears 3-6 month clothes.
*Cooper is trying really hard to roll over these days. He is so close, but just can't get that last little umph to make it to his belly!
*Cooper LOVES to talk, and LOUD!

*Cooper ADORES his big sister! If she is in the room, all of his attention is on her.
*He has the cutest coos and I love to hear him laugh!
*Cooper still eats about every 2 hours throughout the day.
*At night time, Cooper is usually having a 9-10 hour stretch of sleep. He usually goes down around 8PM and wakes between 5 and 6 to eat then goes down again until I wake him for school. On the weekends he usually sleeps until 8:45 or 9!
*Cooper is a horrible napper! He usually will take a 45 minute to 1 hour nap for me in the mornings on the weekends. Then I find myself trying and trying to get him down for an afternoon nap. He is just too curious about everything going on around him and fights sleep like crazy! By 5 PM, that boy is exhausted so once I have tried a few times to get him down, I usually take him out in the car seat and can get a little nap in that way. At school, he cat naps in 15 minute increments a lot, and sometimes will take a nap for a longer stretch.

*Cooper is still exclusively breastfed. We probably won't start any solids until he is closer to 6 months old.
*If the TV is on in a room, he loves to watch it! We try to keep that to a minimum though.
*Often in the evenings while Chris and I eat dinner, he sits in his bouncy seat on the counter with us. He loves to stare us down and has the dreamiest little gaze.
*Cooper has a great grip these days and can hold on to toys. He can pick them up if it is something worthy of putting in his mouth and it is within his reach!
*He loves chew on his burp cloths as well as his doggie and elephant crinkle toys!

Cooper has been such an incredible addition to our family. Chris and I both feel blessed beyond measure!

Devin came to the hospital to meet Cooper the first day he was born. She didn't get to hold him though, just look at him through the clear little hospital crib they put them in Two days later though when we got home from the hospital, the first thing she asked to do was to hold Cooper and of course we let her! I almost consider this when she got to really meet him!

Cooper-10 weeks old!

Oh what a bad mommy I have been! I am sure I had updated on Devin multiple times by this point in her life and Cooper has only gotten a birth story! So I am going to give some stats so I will have them. As much as I have tried to catch up, I am still a little behind!

From September 11

*Cooper weighs about 12 pounds. He is in the 65% on weight and the 97% on height, but I can't remember what that measurement was.
*He is wearing size 3 month clothes but is about to move to 6 and 3-6 month because he is so tall!
*Cooper is in a size 2 diaper.
*Cooper LOVES to smile and coo! He laughs too. He loves to watch his sister and she loves that he loves her.
*He seems to be gaining more and more head control every day. He does pretty well with it now but his head still seems pretty heavy to him.
*Cooper loves to lay on the floor and watch the fan and everyone moving around him. He can be happy doing this anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, especially if he is in the right mood and you stop and talk to him periodically.
*His bedtime still fluctuates anywhere between 8-10 depending on when he took his last nap, and how much he has slept in a day, but on a good night, he sleeps 5 to 6 hours for the first stretch and then another 3-4 hours. Other nights, he still gets up sporadically every 2 to 3 hours. Those are usually when his tummy hurts or he is way overtired.
*He loves to be on his belly, unlike his big sister who would throw a HUGE fit when we did tummy time.
*We moved Cooper into his crib in his own room when he was 6 weeks old and never looked back. It took almost 6 months with Devin and I always wished I had moved her earlier.
*Cooper is pretty good about going to sleep on his own most of the time if I put him in bed full and sleepy. Sometimes I have to go put his paci in a few times. I am determined to teach him to be a better sleeper than his sister was. Only time will tell if it is working though!
*Cooper is not a huge fan of the paci all the time, but does like it when he is really tired.
*Cooper has been the most wonderful addition to our family and makes us feel so complete.
*He still has very blue eyes and we are all hoping they stay that way!
*Cooper started daycare yesterday and did great. He is taking 2-3 oz bottles every two hours or so right now. He was worn out when he got home, but woke up for about an hour, then went to bed for the night!
*Unlike with Devin, Cooper has been on the go since he was just a few days old. We have had multiple lunch dates while I was on maternity leave. I have even made 2 grocery store trips by myself with both kids! I am getting more and more confident with being in public with both kids and managing Devin who is a little on the wilder side.

While pregnant, in this extremely hot Summer we have had, I LOVED to get a blended lemonade from Starbucks while I got groceries. I had completely stopped going to Starbucks, but started again for the last month or so of my pregnancy, only to indulge this Summertime treat.

Devin loved it too! I had to ask them for an extra cup each time so I could pour some of mine in for her to enjoy. She always asked for more and usually drank more of my drink than I did!

It has been awhile since I did an update on Devin!

From June 11

*Devin weighs about 30 pounds.
*Devin wears size 3T in a lot of things, but we buy 4T in shirts and dresses since she is so tall and thing get too short on her fast!
*She wears a size 8 shoe.
*Devin has become a really picky eater over the last 6 months. She will put just about anything in her mouth but will spit it right back out if she doesn't want it. Just recently, she is starting to get slightly less picky again, but it might just be a fluke so I am not holding my breath on that one!

*Devin talks constantly and carries on conversations about anything and everything.
*Devin has been fully potty trained for quite some time, but she rarely has accidents these days. They do still happen from time to time.
*Devin has really been into imaginative play lately and will cook a 4 course meal in her kitchen and serve it and tell you "careful it's hot" and other things like that.
*Devin sings constantly! She comes home singing new songs everyday, and they are all the familiar songs from my childhood so I can sing them with her.

*Devin also sings a long with the radio constantly which I would expect but I still think it is so funny everytime I notice it.
*Devin has really gotten a grasp on her colors, shapes and knows all of her ABC's. She can't recognize the ABC's yet, but she can say them all in order. We need to start working on recognizing them more.
*Devin became a big sister to Cooper recently and she absolutely adores him. She has been such a good big sister and it is so fun to watch her mommy him. She has also started paying more attention to her dolls since he has arrived. I hope she continues to adore him the way she does now.
*Devin is hilarious and says some of the funniest things to us! I wish I could just record her all the time because we forget so quickly!

*Devin has also really been interested in the difference between boys and girls lately. She goes through the list of everyone she knows and tells me either "her a girl" or "he a boy". We have also been practicing the proper names for the female and male anatomy. Now that she has a baby brother, she is starting to really understand the difference, so it seems.
*We have been working the last few months on getting Devin to go to sleep on her own again. She did it for about 6 months, but when we got rid of paci, she started making us stay in her room while she fell asleep. We would sit in a chair by the door. We are getting closer and closer to leaving each night without mass hysterics....we still have bad nights though, but we are getting there.
*Devin is so sweet and loving to the people she loves. She will grab both of your cheaks and give you a kiss and when she hugs you, she pats you on the back.

*In the past month, we finally turned Devin's car seat forward facing and moved her to the drivers side. We spent a few days before Cooper got here practicing entering on the passenger side still and crawling across so that I can avoid having her in the street when possible, as well as have her be getting into her seat while I get Cooper situated, and then i come across and buckle her in.
*Devin is very possesive of her brother as well as her mommy. When I walk into her school, if any other children try to touch me or Cooper, she gets between them and us and tells them "My Cooper" or " My mommy".
*The other night, she was sitting at the bar and she told me "Mommy, I love Cooper. He's my Cooper, not R's!" (R is her friend from school)

First Swim

Back over Memorial Day weekend, I took Devin for her first swim of the season in our pool. She was so so excited about it!

That was the first and the last time she willingly got into our pool this Summer! It was a little too cold for her. Her sissy has gotten her in a few times since, but just on the steps.

Fun Day!

I am going to be playing catch up for awhile so just know quite a few of these next several posts are from before Cooper was born.

I had been waiting since the day Devin was born to take her to a show at Casa Manana. We planned a day in May and Devin woke up that day with a fever and we gave our tickets to the people we were going to go with. So a few weeks later my parent's neighbor offered us theirs and we took them!

We met up with our friend Raphael and his mommy. Both kids were done before the intermission. The music, the loud thunder and noises and most importantly the witch did them both in!

They sure had fun bouncing around in the seats and looking at the program before it started though!

Devin and I went to pick up some paint samples since this was still during our remodel and went to check out the little toy store next door. She found a friend there and had so much fun checking out all of the wonderful toys there!

So Devin and I went and picked up my mom and we all went to the bookstore for a bit. She found another friend there and had so much fun picking out a book and taking it to read in the reading area in the children's section.

Later that evening we met our friends Lowdon and Gage and their mommy at Mellow Mushroom for dinner. It is such a yummy pizza place! They have these painted cows out front that we had to check out!

Cooper's Arrival!

I know I am very behind on blogging, but I have a lot of good excuses, the most important being the arrival of our sweet baby boy! I do plan to blog some pictures form before his arrival but I want to get his birth story written while it is still fresh in my mind.

The Thursday before he arrived when I went to my Dr's appointment, she told me I was 50% effaced and dilated to a 2. I had been 50% for a few weeks and my dilation had been increasing and changing each time. Cooper was also sitting really low which I could tell when I was walking. She asked me if I was ready to have a baby and I told her I was so she stripped my membranes which has a good chance of jump starting labor if your body is already about too. We talked a bit and decided that at 39 weeks (5 days later), if he hadn't come on his own, we would induce because I was favorable for it, and quite honestly, since I had been induced with Devin, that was what I was comfortable with if my Dr was as well.

So the next Tuesday when I was still pregnant, we arrived at the hospital at 6 AM. We got all checked in and by around 7:40 they started the pitocin and I was still at a 2. They had put me on the monitors as soon as we got into the room about an hour earlier and I was already contracting on my own, but it wasn't strong nor was it regular. I had a good contraction pattern starting and at about 8:30 my Dr arrived. I had some issues with my epidural working properly when I had Devin that we were concerned about but felt was most likely a kink in the catheter since we had gotten it to work. We discussed 3 different options, and I chose to have her go ahead and break my water, even though I knew it would make the contractions far more painful and I could still potentially be in labor for awhile since we just started. She told me I was in control and that I could ask for the epidural whenever I was ready. She checked me and I was already dilated to a 4 so she broke my water around 8:50 and as expected, it made the contractions feel much worse. I labored really hard for about an hour and a half when I finally asked for an epidural.

If you are planning on getting an epidural and don't want to read my horror story, then just skip this paragraph but be forewarned. So around 10:30 the anesthesiologist arrived. We told her about the issues I had when I had one with Devin. I had a far worse experience this time. In a nutshell they poked me 6 times before I had a working epidural. They got it in successfully one other time and tested it and everything came back fine, but when they turned me in bed and tested it again before they put the medicine in, they got blood back which meant it was in my vein. The other times I could feel it going down my back as if it was hitting every vertebra. They hit a nerve in each of my legs on different times and the first time they did that it made my leg shoot out and I screamed because it scared me so bad. They ended up giving me some Stadol to help take the edge off and some Zofran to keep me from being nauseous since the Stadol is a lot like drinking 6 margaritas really fast. I apparently said some pretty funny things after this. At around 11:45, after and hour and 15 minutes of trying this, they had finally gotten it to work and it was working well. There was more than once that I thought the anesthesiologist was going to say she couldn't do it.

So at about 12:15 they checked me again and I was at a 5. At 12:45 they checked again and I was a 6. Chris and I had invited my cousin Alison to be there for the birth this time if she wanted to be and she was coming to town to help us with Devin anyway so she was super excited to be there. I remember the nurse saying at this we should probably call my cousin to head to the hospital just to be sure but that she could take her time. We had originally planned to call her when I got to about a 6 so this seemed reasonable. Within about 15 minutes of this is started feeling really strong pressure and told Chris I really thought the epidural was about to wear off like it did with Devin because it was what I remembered it feeling like. When my nurse came in at 1:15, and I told her this, she said she wanted to check me again and when she did she said "I knew it! Your a 10!" So within 30 minutes I had gone from a 6 to a 10! Cooper was really low and was ready to come out and this is why I was feeling so much pressure. She called Dr. B to tell her and we called Awol and told her to hurry now! She was almost there and we had to wait about 30 minutes for Dr. B to arrive. Thank God for the epidural because I would have never made it otherwise. My cousin came running in the room and asked if she made it in time, and probably 10-15 minutes later Dr. B arrived.

So when Dr. B arrived it was time to start pushing. It was 1:50 PM when we started with a few. She said after a few pushes to hold on, she was going to go get dressed for delivery, and I also asked for a mirror at this point. A few minutes later, she had me start pushing again. Because they had given me Zofran with the Stadol, I felt really good the whole time I was pushing and didn't feel super sick like I did with Devin. I am happy about this because I really enjoyed the birth experience with Cooper. I was very calm and layed back and I watched most of it in the mirror. I pushed for about 15 minutes on and off and at 2:06 PM on 6/28/11 Cooper Jones M. was born. He weighed 6 pounds 14 ozs and was a little over 19 inches long.

Unlike my delivery with Devin, I had a small episiotomy that was nothing, but I did have a horrible headache that lasted a week and we have yet to figure out if it was a spinal headache or tension headache from being hunched over while contracting for so long while I got the epidural. The next weekend, my Dr put me on 48 hours of bed rest and that seemed to resolve it. I did have to also make a trip to the chiropractor for my neck and back.

We are so happy to have him here and I feel like our family is complete. Devin has adjusted well to him and absolutely adores him and Chris and I are figuring out our new normals.

That is one proud daddy to finally have his son!

Big Girl Bed

We moved Devin into a big girl bed at the end of April and she loves it! She has done really well in it and didn't have any trouble with the transition. I just hope the transition from this big girl bed to the even bigger girl bed (Queen Size) in the other bedroom goes just as well when she gets to move into the bigger bedroom in a few weeks!

As you can see, she has her entourage with her. She doesn't really hold or cuddle any of her dolls while going to sleep, but she sure does want them all in bed with her!

Devin LOVES to sing these days! She sings and sings and sings non stop all the time! Here are just a few examples that I had to document.

Then there is Devin and the kitty. We took the kitty outside in the backyard with us a few times and Devin is so very attentive to her. She is very sweet like this to Harley too...most of the time.

Then there is the constant obsession with Tia Awol. Since we are adding a room to our house, we had to move into what was the guest bedroom. This is the room Tia Awol used to stay in as well as sissy and any other guests we have so ever since we moved in there, she asks about Tia Awol all the time.

Those are some of Devin's favorite words these days. And indeed, a princess she is! On this particular day, Uncle John and Aunt Michelle stopped by for a bit, and Devin showed off all of her princess clothes and got aunt Michelle to read to her!

Easter in Austin

The weekend we went down to Austin also happened to be Easter weekend. Tia Awol and Devin had fun dying eggs while we were gone! At my sister in law's suggestion that I passed along, Tia Awol put Devin in the bathtub to dye them, and then just followed it with a bath which I am told was much needed by then!

The next morning Devin woke up bright and early. Tia Awol said she tried to get her to come get in her bed with her to get a few more minutes of sleep, but before she knew it, Devin has escaped and was at the bottom of the stairs and had just discovered her Easter basket that was newly filled with treats when she got there! There was a Dora paint book in it that Devin LOVED!

Chris and I got back around lunch time. She was painting in her Dora book again and happy to show daddy her work!

Tia Awol set up an Easter egg hunt for her while I kept her distracted upstairs for a bit. She had already hunted the empty eggs multiple times, but this time they had stuff in them!

Later that evening we made some yummy dinner and enjoyed visiting before we hit the road back to Fort Worth the next morning!

Many thanks to Tia Awol for making Devin's first overnight away from mommy and daddy so memorable and fun. I have great memories of Easter at Aunt Bird's house with Tia Awol and Edward and Clay and am so happy that Devin gets to have some of her own!

Swinging in the "Hammer"

Every April, Chris and I usually take some time off the weekend after tax season ends and either have a staycation, or go out of town for a long weekend. This time, my boss' son was getting married in San Antonio, so we went down to Austin to visit Tia Awol and then Chris and I went on to San Antonio while devin spent the night with Tia Awol. Devin loved swinging in her "hammer"

Main Street Arts Festival

Each year in April, Main Street Arts Festival comes to Fort Worth. There is music, food, arts and crafts and street vendors. Devin and I met up with Todd, Mara and Bianca and went to check it out. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was SO BUSY! We didn't end up staying that long really because it was so packed, but we did check out some of the vendors and let the girls do a few of the arts and crafts.

Devin is all about accessories lately! She loves to wear my headbands and necklaces and even shoes. She runs around telling us she's a princess while in costume too! This dress must make her feel especially pretty because she always tells me she's a princess when I put it on her!

I am really behind on blogging right now. I have pictures from March I am about to blog but hope to get caught up and stay caught up now that tax season is over, the house remodel is underway, and the rest of my immediete deadlines will be behind me come Monday. I can't say that I won't still be exhausted all the time, but I hopefully won't feel as busy (yeah right!).

Anyway, back at the end of March, Tia Awol came to town for the first time since the Fort has been sold and she had no obligations other than whatever she felt like doing! She got to go to Little Gym with Devin for the first time and babysat Devin and Bianca for a few hours while I went to a shower for a friend.

One of those nights, Uncle Rick had us all over for dinner and a little party. He loves to have us all over to his place, and with the weather being really nice, it is fun to go hang out there seeing is though it is all outside!

Devin and Bianca had a lot of fun exploring there as they always do!
